Summer Programs

Programs of Study

Our 8 week semester session offers flexibility so families can go on vacation and keep lessons going! Students will continue to take lessons, just as they are doing now, and if there are planned vacations, the lessons will be made up. A very popular option is for students to take 4, one-hour lessons. In order for parents to have the same teacher in the fall, the minimum number of summer lessons will be 6.

If your student likes a challenge and loves music, this is the perfect summer program! Students can earn their first Royal Conservatory Certificate with our June-August summer session. With just a little bit of practice you can earn your first RCM certificate in your instrument of choice.

The RCM Certificate Program incorporates repertoire, etudes/studies, sight-reading, ear training, technique and theory into a structured curriculum that is designed to assess the students progress and musical growth. At the completion of each level a Certificate of Achievement can be earned by successfully completing a Royal Conservatory practical examination.

Summer RCM lesson dates are June- August and the student must take at least 8 lessons in order to prepare for the exam.

Why summer music lessons?

A note from Laura Readyoff

It’s summer and everyone is ready for some well deserved rest. Kids also deserve the opportunity to experience music lessons in a relaxed, fun summer environment.

Benefits:

  1. Flexible scheduling over the summer: Many music schools offer lessons that have flexible scheduling options. You can enjoy taking a family vacation and continue taking music lessons.
  2. Small Camps, Big Impact: Mini-Camps, Rock Camps, String Camps and others abound. What an easy, stress free way to spend as little as a day or as long as a week learning something new or honing your skills. Make new friends who love music like you!
  3. Greater Focus: Over the summer students do not have to worry about school work, tests and other outside activities. This allows students to focus their attention on music. This also makes practicing a stress free joy!
  4. No backtracking: Taking a “break” from private study and re-starting later can result in a loss of confidence and a struggle to perform. In addition to school, stress from getting back into a routine with practice can often result in the desire to quit. Students who study continuously are more likely to have a mindset that music is simply a part of their lives. These students will likely continue to study music into adulthood and attain a level of ability that allows them to continue playing for fun, for friends and family or even professionally.
  5. Fun and motivating: Summer affords a great opportunity to grow as a musician and explore new music, including pop, jazz, and rock. Why not try a new instrument? The possibilities are endless.
  6. Financial Sense. Avoiding disruption to music lessons will “pay-off”. A student that continues with lessons over the summer will not need to “re-learn” the same skills and techniques that they would have otherwise lost during their time off. In fact, most students that study during the summer enjoy substantial gains in their playing ability due to more time and less stress from school. By stopping lessons for the summer a parent is essentially paying for the same thing twice which is a waste of money.

Lastly, music lessons are more than an extracurricular activity. Music is universal. It is profoundly human and exists in all of mankind. Music is hope. Music is joy. As humans, we all have a song of our own that lives in our hearts. When you expose and allow your child to participate in the arts you are instilling intrinsic values such as kindness, self confidence, creativity, imagination, thoughtfulness, cooperation, compassion, graciousness, and charity. The world needs more kindness, charity and joy. The first step starts with you.
