Summer Lessons & Camps

Summer flex lessons are our most popular summer program. Enjoy your family vacation and allow your musicians to continue learning without losing valuable progress. Register for as many private lessons over the summer that best fit your schedule, no contract required. New to an instrument? Summer is the perfect time to get a head start on a school band or stringed instrument. Lesson times fill up quickly, so call us to set up your summer music fun!

If your student likes a challenge and loves music, this is the perfect summer program! Students can earn their first Royal Conservatory Certificate with our June-August summer session.
With just a little bit of practice you can earn your first RCM certificate in violin, viola, cello, guitar, voice, and piano.
The RCM Certificate Program incorporates repertoire, etudes/studies, sight-reading, ear training, technique and theory into a structured curriculum that is designed to assess the students progress and musical growth. At the completion of each level a Certificate of Achievement can be earned by successfully completing a Royal Conservatory practical examination.
Summer RCM lesson dates are June- Aug and the student must take at least 8 lessons in order to prepare for the exam.

In our 2-day musical theater camp, rising middle and high school students will learn invaluable skills in singing, staging, acting, character development and teamwork. Each student will be guided to work in duo and ensemble scenes from contemporary musicals including “Legally Blonde,” “Matilda,” “Aladdin,” “Into the Woods,” and “Hairspray.” This is a great opportunity to explore musical theater for the first time, or to learn new pieces for upcoming auditions with our vocal specialist, Ms. Nikole James. Ms. James is a graduate of The Manhattan School of Music where she has been cast and performed in many roles. Her greatest joy is to share her passion for music and musical theater.
Scenes will be showcased in the final performance at The Music Loft, Herndon.

Have you always wanted to play in a band, but don’t have any experience? If so, then this camp is for you! Learn how to play in a band in this creative, fast paced, high-energy learning environment with professional musician and teacher, Mr. Jacob Elliott. This exciting week will include everything from performance skills to writing original music!

You will learn to:
– Develop musicianship and build self confidence
– Master the art of learning music quickly
– Learn rehearsal techniques
– Improve skills on your instruments
– Work collaboratively with other musicians
– Select and arrange music for your band’s unique instrumentation

Learn from one of the most sought after educators and professional musicians in the Northern VA area. Work in a creative, fast paced, high-energy learning environment and learn everything you need to know about playing in a band from professional musician and lead guitarist for “Oh He Dead” – Mr. Alex Salser. “Oh He Dead” has toured the United States and is often seen performing at The Kennedy Center and the 9:30 Club in DC. Mr. Salser is also an adjunct professor at American University.

You will learn to:

– Master the art of learning music quickly
– Learn rehearsal techniques
– Work collaboratively with other musicians
– Interpret chord structures
– Improve on your current playing skills
– Select and arrange music for your band’s unique instrumentation

Yes, you can learn to play in a day at The Music Loft! Our certified music educators will teach the fundamentals of strings including; proper instrument placement and bowhold, finger placement, pizzicato, note reading and more all in one day! We will also provide a free instrument for the day! This is a great opportunity to try something new or to get a head start for the upcoming school year

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy and experience quartet music in a fun and relaxed environment. Learn ensemble skills such as learning and identifying important musical sections, keeping specific tempos and the group together, and more while playing fun and engaging music. Here you can break some quartet rules and explore other genres of music.
